Who we are

I first became aware of the unique needs of pregnant women during graduate school. While pursuing a Master of Public Health degree, I became very interested in the physiology of pregnancy, as well as policy issues such as maternity leave and post-partum support. However, it wasn’t until I was pregnant with my daughter in 2006 that I learned how stressful and tiring pregnancy truly is!

During my pregnancy, I struggled to balance my responsibilities at work with finding time to visit my obstetrician, searching the internet for the right stroller, and researching childcare options — all while fighting incredible fatigue. After work, my husband and I spent countless hours preparing the nursery, reading baby books, and figuring out what we needed to buy, when we needed it, and where to shop. Although what I needed most was a good night’s sleep, I spent many nights tossing and turning, fretting over the birth itself, questioning my ability to adjust to my new role, and wondering how I could possibly get everything done before my baby was born!

In creating Seattle Baby Planners, I wanted to help ease the worried minds of pregnant women by providing the guidance and resources I wish I’d had during my pregnancy, while also encouraging women to care for themselves during pregnancy and after the birth of their babies. During the transition to motherhood, women not only need a hand pulling together all the details, they need to be encouraged to take the time to nurture themselves.
